The world lost a Beautiful, Artistic, Special flower with the passing of Sarah and will be a little less bright without her. She was a beautiful girl with an infectious smile that would win your heart over immediately, becoming friends with basically everyone she met.
In her middle and early high school years, Sarah was a very talented ballet dancer and seemed to have a natural gift for artistic flow of movement and dance expression that ballet requires. It looked so easy for her and it was a pure delight to see her on the stage so comfortably expressing herself.
Growing up in the smartphone & social media age, Sarah later quite accidently developed a special talent for taking wonderful photographs. She loved taking pictures of nature settings and especially children. Her pictures were sometimes haunting, sometimes joyous as if there was something in them only she could see.
Speaking of children Sarah LOVED them – especially her little nieces! They couldn’t pronounce her name so she was “SAY SAY” to them and it was like turning on a light when Say Say came over to visit as she lit up their world. Oh how they loved their Say Say!
Sarah gave all of herself to other children as well. She graduated suma cum laudi with a psychology degree from USC. Upon graduation she went to work with the Early Autism Project in Columbia, working with autistic children as a certified behavioral therapist. She loved the interaction with the children and it gave her great joy when she made a breakthrough with one of “her children”. What a wonderful Mother she would have made if only she had the chance!
Sometimes Sarah could be a little bull headed but believe she got that from her parents as deep down she was a thoughtful, caring, good person who was always there with a birthday card, Christmas present, or especially a gourmet chocolate cupcake when you least expected it!
Sarah attended Brennan Elementary, Crayton Middle, and A.C. Flora High School – still remaining close with several of her classmates. She attended Shandon Presbyterian Church when she was younger.
Sarah spent her freshman year at the College of Charleston and her heart remained there. She spent weekends down there whenever possible and had several friends that always welcomed her to stay the weekend. She had a special place in her heart for Folly Beach and could be found there quite often. We believe her spirit will make its way back to the beach in the ocean breeze.
Perhaps Sarah should have been born in the 1970s as she was such a free spirit reminding her family of Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac the way she acted and dressed. She was our “GYPSY”!
Sarah’s passing leaves a massive cavern in our lives and we are devastated. We miss our “Chocolate Chip Cookie” (as her Pop Pop referred to her), TERRIBLY.
Godspeed Sarah as they broke the mold after you were born!
Surviving are her parents; sister, Lauren Hobbs (John); nieces, Mary Wesley and Penelope Hobbs; brother, Wesley Jones, all of Columbia; grandparents, Jim and Kaye Simmonds of Ridgeway and Ray and Tana Pignitor of Columbia. In addition, she was loved by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Bob and Mame Jones.
A private service will be held. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
