

COLUMBIA - Sara Broome Kerr passed into eternal life on March 10, 2021 at the age of 89. She was the daughter of Ruby Taylor Broome and Edward F. Broome and was married to Robert M. Kerr, Jr. for 57 years prior to his passing in 2007. She was predeceased by her brothers, Edward H. Broome and Charles F. Broome.
Sara was born and raised in Columbia having attended Columbia High School and Winthrop College. Prior to their retirement, she and her husband also resided for a number of years in El Paso, Texas and Fresno, California. A devoted wife and mother, Sara was also an active volunteer. She previously belonged to the Pine Garden Club and Garden Club of South Carolina becoming a certified flower show judge. A longtime Sunday School teacher, she likewise served in various leadership capacities within the church as well as a past discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship.
Sara is survived by her daughter, Mary Harper (Jimmy) of Crystal River, Florida; her son, Robert Kerr (Janet) of Columbia; grandchildren, Candy Harper of Union, SC; Jimmy Harper Jr. of Santa Maria, CA; Matt Kerr (Amanda) of Chattanooga, Tn; Meagan Cutler (Will) of Chester, Va; and Mandy Hall (Tim) of Charlotte, NC. She was blessed with twelve great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the dedicated staff of Laurel Crest Retirement Community for their extraordinary compassion and care.
A private graveside service will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Laurel Crest Endowment Fund or Shandon Baptist Church.
