

COLUMBIA - Shelvie Kirks Blackwell, beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018. Born September 18, 1940 in Selma, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Clarence Taylor Kirks and Dolly Norris Kirks.
She worked at Tapps, AIA Insurance Agency for several years. Her biggest accomplishment was owning several Western Sizzlin restaurants with her husband.
She was the wife of the late Thomas Walter “Buddy” Blackwell, Jr. and was happiest when she was with her husband. She loved traveling, shopping, and enjoyed the hobbies her husband enjoyed which included boating, motorcycling, radio controlled airplanes, as well as remote controlled cars. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Hopkins Ward.
Surviving are her daughters, Cyndi Blackwell Dudley of Summerville, S.C. and Susan Blackwell Miller and her husband, Stuart Miller of Cornelius, N.C.; son, Thomas Walter Blackwell, III and his wife, Kimberly Sarvis Blackwell of Lexington, S.C.; grandchildren, Nicholas Taylor Dudley (Jessica), Corey David Dudley (Kristie), Matthew Richard Dudley (Katherine), Marshall Evan Dudley (Lauren), Amberly Nicole Miller, Melissa M. Brewer (Trey), Ashley Renee Blackwell, Katherine Michelle Blackwell and Thomas Walter Blackwell, IV; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa Holcombe, Brantlee Dudley and Taylor Dudley; sister, Sharon K. Walling (Mike); and her beloved poodle, “Sadie.” In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Mark Dudley.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 in Greenlawn Memorial Park with Tim Branham officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
