Sylvia Virginia Glover Lackey went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 28, 2021, after a long illness. She was born in Langley, South Carolina to the late John C. and Debbie Glover. She graduated from Columbia High School and married her high school sweetheart, the late Thomas G. Lackey. Sylvia is survived by her daughter Shannon Lackey, son and daughter-in-law Gib and Dana Lackey, and her precious grandchildren Thomas Lackey, Sara Lackey, and Samantha Lackey. She is also survived by two sisters, Nell Payne of Dallas, Texas and Ann Shealy of Brevard, North Carolina, and many nieces and nephews.
For many years, Sylvia worked in accounting for Columbia Rubber & Gasket Company (under its many name changes) with friend Diane Stotts. Before her illness, you could find Sylvia every Saturday morning at Avalon Salon having her hair styled by friend Joyce Oates. On Sunday mornings you could find her on the back row at Spring Valley Baptist Church with her friend Anice Bell. Sylvia also enjoyed visiting Swansea First Baptist Church, especially when her grandchildren were involved in activities. On Saturdays in the fall you could find Sylvia cheering for her Clemson Tigers.
The family expresses appreciation to Prisma Hospice, especially Jackie Thomas, Morgan Webster, and Julie Dawson.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 1, 2021. Officiating will be Sylvia’s nephew Rev. Steve O. Payne of Greenville, Texas, and Rev. Terry Wilder of Swansea First Baptist Church.
