COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Thomas Joseph “Tim” Russell, 72, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel is assisting the family. Mr. Russell died Wednesday, November 4, 2015. Born in Quincy, IL, he was a son of James A. Russell and Hellice Sarah Stapleton Russell. He served in the US Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Mr. Russell was a realtor for 38 years, with licenses both in South Carolina and Illinois. He was a certified property manager, shopping center manager and appraiser. He served as the past president of Quincy Board of Realtors, vice president of the Illinois Association of Realtors and chairman of the Quincy Plan Commission. Mr. Russell was manager of Quincy Mall in Quincy, IL, and Richland Mall in Columbia. He was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are his daughter, Kary Lynn Groom (Don) of Henderson, Texas; son, Shawn Joseph Russell of Elgin; grandchildren, Justin Thomas Groom (Amanda) of Henderson, Texas, Daniel Charles Groom (Donna) of Dallas, Texas and Kiera Renee Groom of Henderson, Texas; great grandchildren, Allie, Wesley, Amani and Arden, all of Texas; and brother, John Daniel Russell (Marilyn) of Altus, Oklahoma. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Dorothy “Irish” Rosenkoetter Russell; two brothers, Jimmy Russell and Michael Russell; sisters, Beth McCracken and Barbara Gross. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1005 Asbury Drive, Columbia, SC 29209 or to a charity of one’s choice.
