Born in Fort Gordon, Georgia, he was a son of the late Thomas Carow Nelson, Sr. and Erika Pause Nelson. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years during the Vietnam War. Thomas was a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and his Master’s degree in History. He retired after 28 years as a representative for the U.S. Department of Labor. An avid University of Georgia Bulldog fan, he was also an avid reader who loved history.
He is survived by Bonnie Austin, Allyson Austin, Rachel Todd (Michael), Austin, Aidan, Avery, and his four-legged friend, “Josie.”
Private services were held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Elmwood Cemetery.
