COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Truey Tarbox Thieker, 89, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2021, at St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Thieker passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021.
Truey Tarbox Thieker was born August 17, 1931, in Charleston, SC, daughter of Gertrude Hesse Claussen Tarbox and Herbert Glennie Tarbox, Sr. They moved to Georgetown in 1937.
Mrs. Thieker attended Coker College. In 1951, she married Forrest Henry Thieker (1925-2013) and they settled in Columbia, SC. She was president of the Professional Engineers Auxiliary, and member of the Rose Society, Women's Club, English Speaking Union, Settlers' Club, and Sasanqua and other garden clubs. She became a Clemson Master Gardener.
Mrs. Thieker attended St Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild 25 years, sang in the choir 20 years, was active in Episcopal Church Women, and did many good things to support the church.
Truey was a world traveler and enjoyed cruises (IE Royal Princess and the QE2), bus trips, and airplane excursions, including to the Pacific Northwest, Winter Park Colorado, Mackinac Island, Western Europe including England, Italy and Greece, Eastern Europe including "Checkpoint Charlie," China, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, and a month-long trip around the world in 1995 that included Vancouver, Japan, Russia, Korea, the Aleutians, and "Around the Horn."
She is survived by her children: Forrest Herbert Thieker of Greenville, SC, Gary Anton Thieker (Cassie) of Charlotte, NC, Alicia Croft Thieker Allen (Charlie) of Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren: David Forrest Thieker (Sumitra), Alison Lee Thieker Lyons, Stephanie Catherine Thieker, Henry Baxter Thieker, Zachary Charles Allen (Rhiana), and Daniel Stephen Allen; a brother: Herbert Glennie Tarbox, Jr. (Margaret Ann); a niece, Meg Tarbox Williams (Cotton); and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Michael's and All Angels' Endowment Fund, and the American Institute for Cancer Research.
