OBITUARY

Valentine Henry Stieglitz IV

July 14, 1984October 12, 2019

Beloved son, brother, and father, Valentine Henry Stieglitz IV, 35, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2019, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Henry was a graduate of Hammond School, the University of South Carolina, and the USC School of Law. He loved cooking, dogs, music, playing his guitar, and sports; but most of all, he loved his daughter, Ella Grace. He worked for several years in the legal arena. Henry was a large and strong personality with an endless sense of humor, witty, and with an unbreakable love for the family and friends close to him.

In addition to his daughter, he is survived by his loving parents, Val H. and Sandra Stieglitz; his sister and closest confidant, Catherine; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and godparents, who loved him dearly. Henry’s battle to survive his injuries was worthy of his best traits, and lent credit to his memory.

A visitation in Henry’s honor will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Henry’s name to Hammond School, 854 Galway Ln, Columbia, SC 29209.

My best memory of Henry was when he was dressed up as the Hammond Skyhawk mascot during one of our basketball games. I remember going through warmups and looking over to see this gigantic mascot running out and taking the basketballs from the opposing team. Still makes me laugh 😂. Henry could always make you laugh no matter how you were feeling. Rest In Peace my friend...

Every time I pass your home, I think of your beautiful family and Henry and Catherine as darling children. My heart aches for all those close to Henry. Shandon will never feel the same. May God’s grace and love surround you all during this trauma. Please know you have friends close and far and we are praying for your family!

Henry was such a good student. He was the first student to ever receive a perfect score on one of my midterm exams after years of teaching. I will miss him tremendously. Prayers for his family and friends. Susan

I first met Henry as a young man when he was considering law school. I was struck by his kindness and thoughtfulness. Over the course of the next few years I was privileged to see and talk with him regularly, often about his future, life and the law. Henry was so full of life and promise and his passing is all of our loss. However, the loss his family must feel is unimaginable. I hope Val and Sandy and Catherine take some comfort in knowing that he touched many people, young and old, and that he will be missed.
