COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Warren Anthony “Tony” Jennings, 72, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Shandon Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Jennings died Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Warren Abner Jennings and Gertrude Elizabeth Medlin Freeman. He graduated as Salutatorian of his class from Olympia High School, attended the University of South Carolina, and later graduated from Mercer Community College. He enlisted in the SC Army National Guard in 1966 and worked for them full time, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 2003. He served as treasurer of the National Guard Association of SC for 25 years and was elected to the SC National Guard Federal Credit Union Board of Directors in 1990. He also served as Chairman of the Supervisory Committee from 1985-1989. Mr. Jennings received many awards and achievements, including the Humanitarian Service Medal, SC Active State Service Medal, SC Palmetto Service Ribbon and the SC Guardsman Retirement Medal. Mr. Jennings was a member of Shandon Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School and served as an usher.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Donna C. Jennings; daughters, Michelle Moore (Mark) of Blythewood and Susan Jennings of West Columbia; grandchildren, Christian Crosby (Daniele) of Cayce, Joel “Bill” Crosby III (Courtney) of Charleston, Elizabeth Murphy (Adam) of Beaver Creek, OH, Taylor Crosby of Columbia, Elliott Moore of Blythewood, Matthew Moore of Blythewood, Owen Jennings Reynolds of West Columbia; five great-grandchildren; aunt, Annie Richardson (Coy) of Ridgeway; sisters-in-law, Carol Barlow of Warner Robbins, GA and Patricia Bennett of Columbia; brother-in-law, John W. Carter, Jr. (Charlene) of Columbia; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
