COLUMBIA - A graveside service for William Smith DuPree, 89, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. DuPree died Saturday, April 16, 2022. Born in Spartanburg, he was raised around Statesville, N.C., the son of Henry Thomas and Nola Bell Lackey DuPree. He enjoyed a long and distinguished military career, serving in Korea, Vietnam, Greece, Thailand and Washington, D.C. He retired and transitioned into his second career as a Nursing Home Administrator for many years in S.C. and N.H.
A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Carole DuPree Garren; son, William “Billy” DuPree (Edie); grandson, William Aengus DuPree; nieces, Marcia Todd Wood, Trudy Todd Morehead and Frankie Todd Tinley. He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth DuPree and his son-in-law, Mark Garren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or to Catholic Charities of S.C.
