

Bill was born January 17, 1928 to Heelond Webb Godshall and Martha Thompson Hollingsworth Godshall in Union, South Carolina. He graduated from Union High School and went on to attend the University of South Carolina where he studied business. After many years of a career in banking, he later attended Woodrow Wilson College of Law where he obtained his law degree.
Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley Freeman Godshall of Lexington SC; his three children, Stanyarne Reid Godshall (Corinne) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Dawn Godshall Alewine (Edgar) of Lexington SC, Erich Anthony Godshall (Debra) of Murrells Inlet SC; six grandchildren, Coleman Thomas Parks (Leslie) of Murrells Inlet SC, Josie Godshall Spender (Doug) of Boonton Township NJ, Teleah Weslyn Alewine of Lexington SC and Edgar William Alewine of Lexington SC, Raymond Donald (Jack) Freeman III of West Columbia, SC, Heston Blake Freeman (Simmie) of Cayce, SC; great-grandchildren, Jack, Caroline, Claudia and Callie Parks of Murrells Inlet SC; sister Jeanne Morris (Joe) of Columbia SC; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, son Michael William Godshall of Columbia, SC, sister Rebecca Godshall of Lexington, SC.
Bill was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy on the battle ship USS Wisconsin. He was president and CEO of a mortgage company developing communities in Columbia and Greenville SC. Bill was an advocate for abused women and founded the Dads Against Violence Organization. He was also president of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Bill had a passion for reading, great westerns and hunting, all of which he loved to share with his children and grandchildren. To all of those who knew and loved him, Bill was the greatest storyteller of his time.
