COLUMBIA - William Jenkins Marsh peacefully entered into his eternal rest on January 1, 2018. He was at his home, surrounded by family members and dear friend, Mrs. Diane Wadford. Born in Aulander, North Carolina on July 25, 1926, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1947 with a BS Degree in Commerce. He worked in the insurance business for five decades, working with Traveler’s in Charlotte and Boyle-Vaughn, Keenan, and Adams and Eaddy agencies in Columbia. His seniority and expertise earned him the nickname “Godfather of Surety Bonds.” He attended Eastminster Presbyterian Church and was active in his Sunday School class. He avidly studied Southern history, with expertise in the War Between the States. He supported his sons as a Boy Scout Leader and parent volunteer for multiple athletic teams. Mr. Marsh loved the outdoors, overjoyed by birddogs working a covey of quail and by catching a bass from the black waters of the Chowan River. He deeply loved his family and friends. William was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Martha. He is survived by his sons, William H. Marsh, MD. and Stephen S. Marsh, MD.; daughters-in-law, Pamela and Karen; and grandchildren, Hannah, Roy, Sam, Nathan, and Courtney. The family will welcome friends at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Aulander North Carolina Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Rd, Columbia, SC 29204; or PruittHealth Hospice, 903 Elmwood Ave Suite A, Columbia, SC 29201. Duck Was a wonderful man and a second cousin of mine. I loved him dearly. My deepest sympathy to his family. I will miss him forever. He was the perfect example of a Southern Gentleman. May he Rest In Peace next to his beloved Martha in Aulander.

To all of the Marsh family, we extend our sincerest sympathy but reflect fondly of having known Bill personally. He was a true Southern Gentlemen, a wonderful story teller, an outstanding historian and a great Bond Man. Both he and Martha meant a great deal to our family. We will miss him but think of them fondly with a smile. Thank you for your friendship Mr. Marsh. Freda, Gary and Geoff Gummerson, Charlotte, NC

With every meeting with Steve's Dad I always felt that I was in the presence of a remarkable and gentle man. I am so sorry for the loss Steve and Bill are experiencing and for the sadness all of the family must feel. Your children have lost two fine granddads in a short period of time. Blessings and peace to all of you!
