William Dagnall Meetze

William Dagnall Meetze, 78, of Columbia, South Carolina died on March 29, 2024 after a short illness. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Rev. Dr. George Elias Meetze and Margeret Allen Meetze. He graduated from the University of South Carolina and Officer Candidate School in 1969.

Billy was associated with Unisys (formally Burroughs) Corporation for 33 years, where he received numerous accolades. In his semi-retirement, he was consultant for IBM. He was a member of Columbia Rotary Club and Forest Lake Country Club.

Billy had an infectious laugh. He had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good story or joke but preferred to be telling them. He loved the outdoors and the beach; he lived at Pawleys Island for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Toby Seabrook Meetze; sons, George Seabrook Meetze (Alston) of Lexington, and William Dagnall Meetze, Jr. (Sheri) of Columbia; brother, George Allen Meetze (Suzanne); and grandsons, Joe, William, Hamilton, and Trey.

Funeral Services will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine St, on Friday, April 5th at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JDRF Diabetes Foundation at https://www.jdrf.org/.
