William Anthony Glynn, age 76, died on October 11, 2023. He was born to James and Greta Glynn. A private viewing was held for him at Schoedinger Midtown Chapel in Columbus, Ohio on Thursday October 19th. Bill (or Will - he used both names) was well known for his wit, keen political observations, kindness, generosity, and abiding love of animals that lived in his house, visited his yard & lived in the homes of friends and family. He was nobody’s fool and champion of those in need of someone to stand by them in when it mattered. He was outrageously funny, warmly sympathetic, and rarely missed the point. Bill/Will graduated from Catholic Central High School in Springfield Ohio and attended OSU where he graduated with a BA in political science and met his wife-to-be Kathy. He served in the Army Reserves and his work included employment by the City of Columbus Division of Code Enforcement and finally employment as a parole officer for Ohio’s Adult Parole Authority. Bill’s real work was living his life in the present, engaging in interactions with the people he met and bringing light, laughter, perspective and kindness to those engagements. He tracked the sports he loved (Notre Dame football held a special place) and immersed himself in films, classic television programs and various PBS series, his beloved New Yorker magazine (mostly its incredible range of on-point cartoons), the New York Times and its insightful political and “way of life” columns/commentaries. His knowledge of and perceptions about local, state, and national politics was intense and informed. He was a keen observer of the human condition and genuinely interested in those he met doing the business of life. Every day involved the care and feeding of his beloved indoor and outdoor animals with special salutations over time to Christa, Kali, Fred, Barney, Dinky, Mama Kitty, Beanie, Jimmy, Pepper, Scoobey and Goober and the beloved but sometimes unnamed “outdoor kitties”. Relatives, friends, neighbors and others he met could count on receiving birthday, holiday and Christmas cards which were usually addressed to the person by whatever “moniker” he chose for them and always contained a personal and witty message. And he kept every missive sent his way. In 1983 Will married (and is survived by) his soul mate Kathy in Columbus Ohio where they made their home before and after marriage since 1972. He is preceded in death by his parents, his niece Lisa Comer, his brother Thomas, and his brother-in-law Kenneth Comer. He is survived by his sister Mary Patricia Comer, niece Kristina Dietz, great-nieces and nephews Vincent, Valerie, Kyle, and Chloe, great-great- nieces and nephew Aubrey, Eevie and Kane, close friends in Columbus and elsewhere and wonderful Columbus neighbors where he and Kathy have lived for the past 36 years. If you wish to remember Will with a gift, please choose an organization or cause or person that matters to you and/or give the gift of living your life in a way that is true to your spirit and kind to the planet earth and its inhabitants.
