Caroline "Trilly" Lewis

Caroline (Trilly) Lewis of Concord, NH, age 91, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2026. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her final days. Trilly was born on August 5, 1935, in Newbury, VT, the daughter of Carleton and Marjorie Boyce.

Raised in Wells River, VT, Trilly was the second of five children. Her small-town upbringing included attending a one-room schoolhouse and graduating from Wells River High School in 1953 with a class of fewer than 10 students. Trilly played on the high school girls’ basketball team and then changed into her cheerleader uniform for the boys’ games. Decades later, she would still proudly recite the school cheer song. Her Wells River roots and childhood friendships endured throughout her life.

During her senior year of high school, she met George, who lived in neighboring Woodsville, NH. George & Trilly would remain inseparable for the next seven decades. Trilly attended Concord Commercial College and then entered the workforce. She and George married on June 9, 1956. The following year, George took a job with a geophysical company and the newlyweds packed their bags and headed west, leaving New England for the first time. For the next three years, they lived a whirlwind life in seven homes across five states as George's job demanded. Trilly was a homemaker and worked various odd jobs during these years. This early adventure produced countless stories and many lifelong friendships along the way.

By 1960, the young couple had returned to New England, settling briefly in Berlin, NH before moving to Concord in 1965. There they built a house on Dover Street, raised their family and embedded themselves in the local community for the rest of their lives. Trilly spent four decades working as a personal banker, ultimately retiring in 1999 from Bow Mills Bank & Trust. She was well-known throughout the Concord area and took great pride in her work. But her greatest dedication was always to her family and community.

Trilly’s top priority was being “Mom” to her two sons, followed closely by being “Aunt Trilly” to her many nieces and nephews who were so dear to her. Much of her community involvement centered around South Congregational Church, where she volunteered countless hours helping those in need and aging members of the community. She put her career skills to work and spent her free time helping elderly people manage their finances. After a day of work and an evening making dinner for her family, she was off to help balance checkbooks. Trilly was also heavily involved in PTO activities during her sons’ elementary school years, organizing events from spring flings to lip syncs, and was a longtime Supervisor of the Checklist in Concord’s Ward 8.

Trilly was also a baker who loved to spread joy through holiday care packages. From cookies to fudge to brownies to pies to homemade chocolates, she had a knack for sweet treats. She was also known for her raspberry jelly, made from freshly picked raspberries in her garden. But her most famous recipe was probably her Chex Mix-style “Scramble.” Of course, for Trilly, the real joy came from sharing it all with others.

Many of Trilly’s fondest memories were made at the family (and friend) camp in Lempster, NH. Known to all as Fort McPherson (or The Fort), Trilly helped make this getaway special for generations of family and friends – and it remains a magical place to us all.

Perhaps her life became complete as she spent so many years watching and helping her grandchildren grow up. She was the most caring Grammie anyone could ever want. Ever present in the lives and activities of her grandchildren, Trilly spent her retirement years caring for them in whatever capacity was needed. There was seemingly no limit to the energy and love she gave to her family.

We are all so blessed to have shared so many years with Trilly. She was selfless by nature, and her dedication to family and community will define her legacy. She was predeceased by her husband George; her parents, Carleton and Marjorie; and her siblings Carleton Jr., Russell and Sam. She is survived by the families of her two sons, Jeffrey (Stephanie) of Concord, NH and Gregory (Phoebe) of Newburyport, MA; six grandchildren, Jonathan, Jacob, Harper, Briar, Emersen and Nicholas; three step-grandchildren, Alyza, Keegan and James; and three great-grandsons, Lucas, Colin and Finnley. She is also survived by her younger sister, Barbara Schlenker of Penacook, and many nieces and nephews who love her dearly. And, of course, by countless other friends, relatives and neighbors who treasure her. To know her was to love her – and to love her is a blessing. We will always love you, Trilly…Mom…Grammie.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday October 2, 2026 from 5-7PM at Bennett Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held the next day, Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 11:00 AM at South Congregational Church, 27 Pleasant St Concord NH.
