Catherine Marilyn Gates

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Harold "Spike" Gates; her daughter, Lisa and her husband, Chuck Hodgson of Saratoga Springs, NY; son Jeff and his wife Maryellen of Hingham, MA; daughter, Pam and her husband Jim Eiffe of Portsmouth, NH; and five grandchildren.

Marilyn was born in St. Albans, VT on July 14, 1939. She graduated from Castleton State College in Castleton, VT after spending her childhood years in West Rutland, VT. She met her husband, Spike, at The University of Vermont in Burlington, VT in 1957. They were married on Dec. 30, 1961. Marilyn taught elementary school in Bow and Essex Junction, VT until her retirement in 2001. She loved teaching and her students and stayed in touch with many of them through the years.

Upon returning to Bow, NH after retirement, Marilyn and Spike enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and spending time with their grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 S. Main St. in Concord, NH. Arrangements are entrusted to Bennett Funeral Home of Concord, NH. Burial in West Rutland, VT, will follow at a future date.
