Cheryl A. Janelle, of Canterbury, New Hampshire, passed away on September 27th, 2026, at the age of 70. She was born on April 6, 1956, in Torrington, Connecticut, to Mary Joan Hogan and the late David C. Hogan Sr.
Cheryl was the beloved wife of Donald M. Janelle, with whom she shared 47 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, friendships, travels, camping adventures, and countless memories.
Cheryl was the kind of person who made an impact simply by being herself—warm, thoughtful, social, and genuinely caring toward everyone she met. She had a special gift for staying connected with people and making sure no one ever felt forgotten.
Cheryl spent many years as an administrator for the New Hampshire State Police, where she made lifelong friendships and became a familiar and cherished presence to many. She took tremendous pride in serving as president of the New Hampshire State Police Benevolent Association. Her dedication to the organization and to the people she worked alongside meant a great deal to her.
But perhaps Cheryl’s most important role was being the glue of her family. She was the one who kept everyone connected. She remembered birthdays, checked in on people, stayed in touch with family and friends, and made sure everyone knew they were loved. She always had a birthday card for everyone, often with a scratch ticket tucked inside—a simple tradition that perfectly captured who Cheryl was. She was thoughtful in ways both big and small, and she never needed a reason to do something kind for someone.
Cheryl was a very social person who loved being around people. She enjoyed good conversation and making memories with the people she loved. She loved to travel and camp, and she treasured the adventures and experiences shared with Donald, family, and friends. At home, she adored her cat, Sammy, who held a very special place in her heart.
Cheryl is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Donald M. Janelle; her mother, Mary Joan Hogan; her brothers, John Hogan and his wife, Olga; Greg Hogan and his wife, Lori; and Jerry Hogan and his wife, Amanda. She was predeceased by her brother, David Hogan Jr. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and countless people whose lives she touched throughout the years.
There are some people whose presence becomes woven into the lives of everyone around them. Cheryl was one of those people. She was the person who remembered, reached out, brought people together, and made others feel cared for. She gave so much of herself to the people she loved.
Her absence will be deeply felt—not only by her family, but by the many friends, coworkers, and members of the community who were fortunate enough to know her.
Though Cheryl is no longer here, the love she gave will continue to connect the people she left behind. Her family will carry her memory in every gathering, every story, every laugh, and every adventure.
Cheryl was deeply loved, she will be deeply missed, and she will never be forgotten.
