

Chester (Chet) Louis Wheeler of Concord, NH, died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 18, 2015, surrounded by his family after a long, well lived life. He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on April 5, 1920, the son of Dr. Ernest and Ernestine (Bouchard) Wheeler. He graduated from Concord High School in 1938, playing both hockey and football, known as “Rocket.” In 1942, he graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.
As an ROTC candidate at UNH, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt, ordered to the 17th Infantry Battalion, 7th Infantry Division as Infantry Unit Commander, and assigned to the Battle of Attu. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart and an ATTU Battle star for his leadership and courage under fire.
In 1956, he became a member of the Professional Golf Association and served as the pro at Beaver Meadow Golf Course until his retirement in 1981. Post retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, always maintaining his passion for golf, love of sports, and keen sense of humor.
Chester is survived by, Kimberly Wheeler and husband Otis Fuller of Concord, Lynne Yeaton and husband Bruce of Loudon, along with several loving nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents and loving wife of 42 years, Carolyn R. Wheeler (Dyer), Brother Arthur Wheeler and wife Margery, Sister Berenice Ormsbee and husband Russell.
At his request there will be no calling hours. In his honor, a memorial luncheon will be held at St. Paul’s Church, Concord, NH, on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at noon.
