Daniel Lyle “Danny” Creighton passed peacefully from this life to the eternal on the morning of January 5, 2026. Following a period of declining health, with a team of compassionate doctors and nurses attending and a daughter praying and singing him home, Danny was surrounded with love.
Daniel was one of nine children, born at home in East Concord in 1933 to the late Sylvia and John Creighton and relocating to Loudon when he was a young child. He graduated from Concord High School, working at filling stations and tinkering with the big cars he and his brothers loved, and married his sweetheart, Carol, in 1957. In his career of over 30 years as a Sears Serviceman, he traveled the entire state of NH and could fix any appliance. He was deeply curious about how things worked, and in addition to on-the job training, he completed correspondence courses to stay current in his trade as home appliance technology advanced.
A follower of Jesus, Dan was selfless, caring, gracious, and steadfast, and he loved serving others. He and Carol were members of Webster’s Volunteer Fire Department for many years and became the first EMT instructors for the town. Dan also served the Webster
Congregational Church for many years as a Deacon, studying the Bible through Emmaus correspondence courses. His longest tenure was as the Superintendent of the Sunday School, where so many children learned to memorize bible verses and songs of faith they would have all their days.
Dan was committed to education, encouraging his daughters in their choices of secondary education and careers. On the school board for the Merrimack Valley Regional School District serving seven towns, he was a respected voice for over 20 years. In his later years, Dan trained with Carol as a Compassionate Care team, visiting shut-ins and hospitalized people in their community.
Introduced to playing mandolin and guitar at age four, Dan loved music. When he retired at age 62, Carol presented him with a fiddle which he quickly learned to play under the tutelage of his best friend, Clarence “Jeff” Jeffrey. A birthday gift of tickets to see the NH Strathspey and Reel Orchestra’s Fall Gala sparked an interest in his Scottish heritage. Inspired to learn to read music, he was soon practicing with the orchestra and challenged his daughter Dorinda to get her own fiddle and join, too. The pair played and performed with the Orchestra together for almost 25 years.
Dan spent much of his time outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, mowing with his tractor, splitting and stacking wood, and even shoveling snow. His potatoes and dahlias were the talk of the town, and folks looked to him for the wisdom of planting times and harvest. Living on the Blackwater, a man could always take a break to fly fish for trout, something he shared with his son-in-law, David, who became passionate about the art.
In recent years, following her stroke, Dan became a caregiver to Carol, serving selflessly as her protector and encourager.
Dan was predeceased by five brothers, Glen, John, Jim, Perley, Benjamin, and a sister, Virginia Horgan. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carol; sisters Beatrice Nadeau and Susan Curtiss (Jon); two daughters, Dorinda Priebe (David) and Jennifer Hansen (Rick); grandchildren Ashley Priebe Brown (Jacob), Matthew Priebe (Rebecca), Steven Hansen (Taylor), and Erik Hansen (Jaynie); and great-grandchildren Samuel Levi, Avery Lynn, and Joel Levi.
