E. Markey “Pat” Pullen 82 of Pembroke

One very loved and admired man left this earth on September 22, 2011 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was known to all as “Pat” but his full name was E. Markey Pullen. His journey of life began on January 31, 1929 and on this challenging, interesting, never dull journey, he touched many lives…his family, friends, and even newcomers who were never the same once they met him. Pat was especially loved by Anne, his wife and companion on the journey for 50 years, his children whom he dearly loved…Mark and his wife Suzanne of Fairfield, CT; Denise and her husband John Morton of Middleton, NH and Christopher and his wife Anne of Fairfield, CT. Pat was pre-deceased by his loving daughter, Suzanne. The twinkle in his eyes came from his grandchildren who delighted him and who loved their Papa…Nicholas, Kaitlin, Michelle, Emily, Claire, Jennifer, Megan and Matthew as well as many nieces and nephews. Pat was also pre-deceased by his parents Dr. E. Markey and Mae Pullen, sisters Mae and Joan and his brother Peter. He is survived by his sister Markey and his brother Paul. Pat will be remembered for his gift of storytelling, his kindness, his wonderful wit, his gentle strong support of his family and friends as well as his unique and funny ways. His deep faith was evident as he daily lived it. He graduated from schools in Ireland, Fairfield Prep (CT), as well as Hobart College and worked on Wall Street and a variety of interesting jobs. For many years, Pat along with Anne were involved in Marriage Encounter as team leaders. They also volunteered at the New Hampshire State Prison and supported Kairos Prison Ministries. In remembrance of Pat and in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations to one of the following: Kairos and Kairos Outside of N.H., c/o Norm and Sally Boutin, 76 Young Street, Lebanon, NH 03766; Bishop Accountability.Org or Concord Regional Visiting Nurses Association, 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301 or a local food pantry. With deep gratitude, Anne and the family thank the following for their compassionate care: Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Concord Hospital, HealthSouth Rehabilitation and his VNA care team and numerous faithful friends. A time of vigil will be held at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord, NH on Wednesday, September 28th from 5:00-8:00PM; a Mass of Christian burial will be held at Christ the King Parish (St. John the Evangelist) 72 South Main Street, Concord, NH on Thursday, September 29th at 11:00AM. Burial will be held on Friday, September 30th at the Valley Cemetery, Mascoma Street, Lebanon, NH at 11:00AM.

Mrs. Pullen, I was making a fire this morning (12/18) and stumbled upon Mr. Pullen's obituary in the paper I was crumpling for the fire. I immediately recognized his oft-referred-to twinkling eyes. Please pass on to Chris and the rest of your family our heart-felt belated condolences.

My heart goes out to you and the whole family. I have such vivid memories of Pat's twinkle in his eye, his smile and the lectures he used to give me about life when Chris and I were dating all those years ago. Praying for peace for you, and that the gentle loving arms of Jesus offer you comfort now and always.
