OBITUARY

Edgar Raoul Crete

March 12, 1931September 10, 2017

CONCORD- Edgar Raoul Crete, 86, passed away on September, 10, 2017. The end of his life was marked by courage, endurance and dignity. His belief in God and his devotion to his family sustained him in his battle with illness and ultimately provided him with peace. He was born in St Malo, Quebec, Canada in 1931, the son of Francis and Blanche Crete. His parents and 10 siblings, him being the 4th child out of the 11, moved to New Hampshire in 1942. It is here that he met his wife of 67 years, Beverly Munn. Edgar’s life stands a powerful proof of the value of hard work, resilience, devotion to family and God. He focused on the dream of producing a productive, efficient and profitable dairy farm. While much has been written about the continuing reduction of the number of dairy farms in the state, Highway View Farm in Boscawen was and continues to be one of the very best and most vibrant in the state. Before acquiring the farm, he operated dairy farms for the Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH and Hancock, Massachusetts. The Shaker elders stated that “Edgar had done more work in one year than his predecessor had done in nine years.” Edgar and his family moved to Boscawen, NH in 1960 after purchasing a small dairy farm, today known as the “Highway View Farm.” Back then it was a small farm along many dairy farms in New Hampshire. Today it is about one of 120 dairy farms surviving in New Hampshire. He won many awards over the years, but one of his bigger accomplishments was that of the distinguished recipients of The Green Pasture Award for Dairy Farmer of the Year—1989. The farm remains in the family today with his grandson, Adam, carrying on the tradition. Nearly 30 years later, Edgar and his family were proud to learn that his grandson, Adam, is the recipient of The Green Pasture Award for Dairy Farmer of the year 2017, a further proof of the foundation he built. Edgar had a sincere love for his community. For the opportunities that allowed him to work so hard, raise a family and participate as a good neighbor. It allowed him to fulfill his hopes and dreams and to provide an example for all of us. Members of his family include his wife, Beverly; his children, Patricia Hewitt and her husband, Michael Callahan and Tammy Yahyapour and her husband, Sam; his three sisters, Hermance Paige, Cecile Salonia, Yolanda Wheeler; and his three brothers, Adrian, Leander, and Roger. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two sons, Edgar “Pete” Crete, who left a widow, Betsy, and Bruce Crete who left a widow, Martha and four of his brothers, Gillis, Gauthier, Paul and Robert. Edgar had a sincere love for his community. For the opportunities that allowed him to work so hard, raise a family and participate as a good neighbor. It allowed him to fulfill his hopes and dreams and to provide an example for all of us. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 1pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 180 Loudon Rd Concord. The family requests that in lieu of flowers any donations be made to The Concord Regional Visiting Nurses Association Hospice House, 30 Pillsbury St. Concord. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at https://www.BennettFuneral.com for the Crete family.
