

Edward served in the US Army in the 12th Armored Division during WW2, where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, he served an additional 8 years in the Naval Reserves. While living In Quincy Edward served as the Director of Emergency Management, the President of the Massachusetts Vocational Association, served with the American Red Cross and FEMA, Lutheran Social Services of New England, Board of Directors of Gethsemane Cemetery, and active member of the VFW & American Legion and a member of Wollaston Lutheran Church.
He was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Quincy Vocational Technical School, Wentworth Institute, Fitchburg State University, UMass Boston and Ohio State University. He had been employed by Boston Gear Works, General Dynamics Fore River and as a vocational teacher for 28 years in the Boston Public Schools. Edward was a key leader in the establishment of vocational training programs and establishing cross-relations with many sister cities in China in 1983 & 1987.
Edward’s hobbies included snow and water skiing, snowmobiling, sailing, hiking, wood-working and the great outdoors. He enjoyed travels in Europe, Africa, China, Caribbean, Canada and the USA.
Edward was predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte in 1998 who he was married to for more than 50 years; his sister, Rita Newcomb; his brother, Frank Roberts in 2016 and his parents,
Edward and Margaret (Kogel) Roberts.
Members of Edward’s family include his wife, Barbara of Concord, NH; his daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Gregory of Maine, Ying Xia of Concord, NH; his grandchildren, Kari McCall of Florida, Ty Cook of Wyoming; great-grandchildren, Johnna Jardine of Maine, Sydney of UK, Gabrielle McCall and Blair Ure of Florida; 3 great- great- grandchildren, Stephen, Jayson and Connor; step-daughter, Karen Kemp; step-grandchildren, Helen and Ian and many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 9 at 12 pm at Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock St., Quincy, MA and interment will follow at 2 pm at Gardens of Gethsemane Cemetery in W. Roxbury, MA. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Havenwood in Concord, NH.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
