Elbert C. Noyes, 97, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with family by his side on July 3, 2023. He was born on September 5, 1925, in Manchester, New Hampshire, the only child of George and Alice Noyes. Elbert’s wife, family, and Christian faith were of utmost importance to him, and his life was an example of love and dedication.
Graduating from Concord High School in 1943, Elbert enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After his honorable discharge in May 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, Bernice (Bunny) Fellows. Soon after, Elbert was employed by Christian Mutual Life Insurance Company as a salesman and retired over 40 years later from Christian Mutual as the Senior Vice President. After his retirement in 1988, Elbert and Bunny began spending winters in Naples, Florida.
Elbert and Bunny enjoyed an incredible 70-year journey of love and companionship, raising four children and living in Pembroke, Bow, and Concord. When Bunny’s health and memory failed, he compassionately cared for her for several years. Their marriage was full of love, family, laughter, musical concerts, and summers of fun on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Elbert is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Noyes of Pembroke; his son, Doug Noyes and his wife, Sue, of Moultonborough; his daughter, Brenda Stevens and her husband, Rob, of Concord; his son David Noyes and his wife, Charlene, of Bow; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Elbert was proud of his children for their careers in teaching, nursing, insurance, and sales. As the grandchildren grew older, Grampa held a special place in each of their hearts. His joy in their achievements and his warm presence enriched their lives. He attended countless sporting events, recitals, band concerts, and graduations, never missing an opportunity to celebrate his grandchildren with thunderous applause and a trip to Friendly’s Ice Cream afterwards. He loved taking his grandchildren on motorcycle rides, boat rides, and rollercoasters, and sharing fluffernutters, blueberry picking, and spirited debates.
Elbert’s education began in a one-room schoolhouse in Hooksett, and he deeply valued education and was a constant encouragement to his children and grandchildren in their education and careers. He loved to discuss politics, civic life, and his gratitude for freedom any time he could.
Elbert will be remembered for his sense of adventure, his pride in his family, and his care for others. His warmth, enthusiasm, and charisma brightened the lives of all who knew him.
As we bid farewell to Dad, Grampa, Great-Grampa, Uncle, and friend, we celebrate the life he lived and the impact he had on his family and community. Though deeply missed, his memory will forever live on in our hearts. His legacy of love, resilience, and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, July 13th, at Bennett Funeral Home. There will be a private graveside service.
