Eleanor F Blanco

Eleanor “Ellie” F. Blanco, formerly of Contoocook, NH, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, as Ellie O’Brien, she proudly carried her Irish heritage throughout her life and brought its warmth, humor, and generosity to everyone she met. She was known for her lively spirit, quick wit, and the way she made every person feel welcome.

Ellie built her life around family, service, and generosity. When her children were young, she chose Contoocook— “Tooky”—as the place where they would grow up surrounded by nature, community, and opportunity. It became the place where she built the life she loved and where her heart always remained.

A devoted mother above all else, Ellie poured her entire heart into raising her two children, John and Judie. She created a home filled with encouragement, laughter, and unconditional love. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother, and she embraced that role with extraordinary devotion, strength, and love.

Outside of her home, Ellie lived a life of service. She spent many years as an EMT for the Town of Hopkinton, responding to emergencies with courage, compassion, and calm, supporting families during their hardest moments. Later, she continued her calling as a mental health worker at the New Hampshire State Hospital, where she cared for patients with dignity, patience, and unwavering kindness. Over the course of her career, she helped numerous people, many of whom she would never meet again—but whose lives were changed by her compassion. Her impact is immeasurable.

Ellie was the kind of person who made everyone feel valued. Her generosity reached far beyond her family, touching friends, neighbors, coworkers, and anyone fortunate enough to know her. Many affectionately considered her their honorary mom. The door to her home was always open, and she offered support without hesitation. Even in retirement, she continued to give—supporting charities for children and animals and quietly helping those in need whenever she could.

She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and unending generosity. Her big heart, great sense of humor, and welcoming nature will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a family who adores her and countless memories that will be treasured always.

Ellie is survived by her son, John Blanco, and his fiancé Patty Sweeney; her daughter Judie Blanco; her grandson Mikael Blanco and his husband Howie LeBlanco; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Helen O’Brien, and her five siblings: Thomas O’Brien, Bernice Melanson, Lawrence O’Brien, Robert O’Brien, and Carol McDonough.

A burial will be held at Contoocook Village Cemetery on Thursday, September 3, at 1 PM, followed by a private celebration of life where friends and family are invited to share memories, laughter, and stories as we honor her remarkable life.
