Herbert W. Hall, 91, passed away on February 23, 2021, after enjoying more than 6 years of residency at the Granite Ledges of Concord. He was born the fourth of five children to Ellis O. J. Hall and Ruth B. (Snell) Hall on December 19, 1929. He lived on the Ellis Hall Farm in Pike, NH, from birth until the summer of 1939 when the family moved to the Jack Wing Farm next door. He attended Pike Grammar School and the Haverhill Academy, where he excelled in academics and enjoyed playing on the high school basketball team. His first job experience came working summers as a golf caddie for the Lake Tarleton Club in Piermont, from the age of 10 through 17. Herbert left Pike after graduating in 1947, to attend the NH School of Accounting and Finance, in Manchester, earning a degree and acquiring employment as bookkeeper for the Community Oil Co, Inc. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy, on December 31, 1949, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. After basic training at Sampson Air Force Base in NY, he was transferred to Amarillo, TX where they lived off-base until 1955. Upon his discharge as Staff Sergeant, he moved his family back to New England and lived the remainder of his life in Concord, NH. He spent his career utilizing his education and affinity for numbers, working over 11 years for John Rich Accounting firm and over 25 years as the Director of Medicare Audit and Reimbursement for NH-VT Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
He was a hardworking, devoted husband and nurturing father of four children. He lost his beloved wife of 66 years, Dorothy, in 2016, and is survived by his son, Donald Hall and wife Dale, his daughter Debra Dudley and husband Ed, his daughter Diane Abbott-Davis and husband Norm, his daughter Dorothy Bronson, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held in the Spring.
In honor of his abounding love for children, contributions may be made in his memory to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
