James E. "Jimmy" Hewey, Jr., of Boscawen, New Hampshire, passed away unexpectedly while on his way to the restaurant he loved, ending a life defined by loyalty, friendship, hard work, and a deep devotion to his community. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, coworkers, and the countless people whose lives he touched through his kindness, humor, and dedication.
Born and raised in Boscawen, Jimmy spent most of his life on Academy Street, with his treasured mother Thelma, until her passing. Here, he built deep roots and lifelong friendships within the community he cherished. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Although he rarely spoke about his military service, Jimmy was quietly but deeply proud of having served and carried a profound love and respect for his country throughout his life.
Following his military service, Jimmy returned home and began what would become an extraordinary career in the restaurant industry. He worked at local favorites including the Brick Tower and Concord Country Club before finding his second home at Alan's of Boscawen. For more than four decades, Alan's was far more than a workplace, it was home. Jimmy poured his heart and soul into the restaurant, working alongside generations of coworkers who became some of his closest friends.
Jimmy's love of food was legendary. Whether he was cooking it or consuming it, he approached every meal with enthusiasm. If a dish contained bacon or raspberry, he was willing to give it a try. He served as the trusted taste tester for countless recipes and creations over the years. As a cook, Jimmy became known for preparing some of the restaurant's most beloved comfort foods, including his chicken pot pie, cream of tomato soup, and roast turkey dinners. In his younger days, he was one of the fastest breakfast cooks around, and he took great pride in passing those skills and work ethic on to those he mentored throughout his career.
Outside the kitchen, Jimmy was an avid collector and treasure hunter. He loved taking drives in search of antiques and unique finds and was especially proud of his stamp collection. Over the years, he also amassed a collection of Beanie Babies and many other cherished treasures that reflected his curious spirit and appreciation for the simple joys in life. Bingo was a pastime that Jimmy shared with his beloved aunts, these were times he certainly treasured and he rarely missed a bingo night. He was also known for his beautiful yard and lawns on Academy Street, where he held many pool parties and barbeques for his family and friends.
One of Jimmy's greatest blessings were the friendships he cultivated throughout the years. He spoke fondly of traveling with "Mother Mary," as he affectionately called Mary Andrian. He enjoyed countless gossip sessions and laughs with his dear friend MaDi, Dianne John, and most recently found companionship, friendship, and many memorable dinner dates with Dani Bourque. Whether it was a trip to the beach, a shopping adventure, or simply spending time together, those moments brought him great happiness. Some of his favorite people in the world included Justin, Randy, Bula, Bernie, Buzzy, Albert, Miah, Kathie, George, Amy, Kim, Richard, Matty, Worm, Becky, Linda (despite making her cry), Janelle, Alex, and the rest of his Alan’s family.
For more than 40 years, Alan’s of Boscawen was more than just a workplace. Alongside Alan Andrian and Christina Langley, he built friendships that became family. To them, he was more than a coworker, he was “Bubba Jimmy". He was a trusted confidant, steadfast friend, and an irreplaceable part of daily life. His presence was woven into the fabric of the restaurant, and his absence will be felt for years to come.
Jimmy was also a familiar face during Boscawen's Old Home Day celebrations. There was hardly a parade that passed by Alan's that he wasn't sitting on the porch watching with a smile and enjoying each moment. He was an enthusiastic lottery player for many years, though he often joked that his luck disappeared when Governor Lynch left office. Jimmy never hesitated to share that opinion with anyone willing to listen.
Jimmy was predeceased by his adored mother, Thelma Hewey; his beloved aunt, Janet Howe; and two of his dearest friends, Mary Andrian and Dianne John. While those who loved him mourn his loss, they find comfort in imagining the beautiful reunion that surely took place as these cherished family and friends welcomed him home. He leaves behind his Uncle David Hewey and wife, Terri of Warner; his Aunt Jeannie Mazza of Nashua, many cousins and friends.
Jimmy will be remembered for his unmatched work ethic, his loyalty, his quick wit, his love of good food, and the friendships he nurtured throughout his life. More than anything, he will be remembered for the kindness, laughter, and generosity he shared so freely with those fortunate enough to know him.
His presence will always be felt in every comforting meal, every small-town parade, every antique treasure discovered on a back-road adventure, and in the countless stories shared by those lucky enough to have known him. His kindness, humor, and unwavering loyalty are gifts that will always be felt in the hearts of all who called him family, friend, coworker, and Bubba.
Calling hours will be held at Bennett Funeral Home (209 N. Main Street, Concord, NH) on July 16th, 2026 from 10am to 11:30am when a service will be held. Internment immediately to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Please join us in celebration of Jimmy.
