John, you blessed our lives in so many ways.  When I think back on our weekly shopping trips, it always brings on a smile.  You were such a gentleman.  It did not matter if it was 100 degrees or -10 out there, you would always be in your breezeway waiting for me to arrive.  The minute I came into your driveway, you would be out the door greeting me with that beautiful smile.  And when we returned from shopping, you would never allow me to help carry in the "heavy stuff".  In fact, you would grab 8 of the 10 bags from the trunk, leaving me to handle the paper goods.  And at the door, you would give that hug and gracious, "Thank you so much. You are so good to me!"  I don't think you ever realized what a joy those shopping trips were to me.
I know you suffered, John,  because I could see how difficult it was for you to get in and out of the car, but you never spoke of your own pain.  Your concern was always about others.  I remember when I walked through our  neighborhood, I would see you mowing the lawn of a neighbor who was ill.  She was 83, and you were 99!
You were an inspiration to all who knew you.  And the world will miss your presence, whether the world knows it or not.  With love,  Jeanne C

To the family of John Grady,
I saw in the news paper the passing of this wonderful man and felt the need to tell his family my experiences with this caring and special person. My mother was at Pleasant View with John and ate her meals at his table. My mother was a very quiet woman and was assigned to eat her meals at the corner table in the back with John and two other men. I ate with John and the others every Tuesday lunch time. John looked out for my mother, Frances Dunbar. At one point, they wanted to move her and make their table an all men's table. John said: "No way!" we have eaten together for a long time and we intend to stay together. Moving my mother would have made her feel unwanted. I remember John taking off like a bolt of lightening when he was ready to leave with his walker. It amazed me how spry he was for his age. My mother passed April 17th and when we were cleaning her room a day or so later, John was sitting in the hallway on his walker. He kept saying to me: " I had no idea!" At this point, I was able to give him a hug and explain that she had passed in her sleep. 
I want to let his loved ones know what a special and caring man that John was and the special influence that he had in my life. So sorry for his passing! He was a wonderful and caring man who made a big impression on me. I have never forgotten him and his caring spirit. Rest in Peace John.
