

Judith E. Chase, 92, passed away at Concord Hospital on January 7,2026 after a brief illness. She had most recently resided at Presidential Oaks in Concord for the past two years. Judy was born on May 14th, 1933 in Hyde Park, VT., daughter of Norman A. and Mildred (Hooker) Black. She graduated Valedictorian from Lamoille Central Academy in Hyde Park in 1951. She then attended the University of Vermont graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She taught French, Latin and English in various schools in VT and NH. She later furthered her education by getting a Master’s degree from Tufts University. After retiring from teaching, she worked at the Concord Public Library for many years, a job she loved.
On August 10, 1957, she married Jonathan (Jack) Chase who predeceased her on October 15th, 1991. Judy was very active in various organizations; the Ladies Auxiliary VFW, she was past President and Chaplain of the Concord Grange and belonged to the Fidelity Rebekah Lodge where she held many positions including Noble Grand and Secretary for many years. From 2005-2006, Judy became the President of the Rebekah Assembly of NH and then became the NH Representative to the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Concord and sang in the choir there. She was an avid reader and lover of crossword puzzles.
Besides her parents and husband, Judy was predeceased by her sister Joyce Watters and brother in law, Chester Watters, a brother, John T. Black, her brother in law and sister in law, Richard and Sarah (Chase) Nichols, and nephews David and Donald Watters. She is survived by her nieces, Linda Dolan, Suzi Watters, Lisa (Anthony) Sykes, Kim (Charles) Leblanc, nephew Richard (Kim) Nichols and numerous grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many special friends too numerous to mention.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 26th at 2pm at the Bennett Funeral Home in Concord. Visiting hours will be from 12-2pm during which time the Grange and Rebekahs will perform their ceremony. Burial will be at a later date at the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor VT next to her husband.
