Linda was born on August 11th, 1951, to the late Albert and Ellen (Baker) Colwell. She grew up in Seekonk, MA and graduated from Seekonk HS in 1969. She pursued her passion for creativity at the Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in fashion design, studying abroad in London and Paris. Shortly after, she met the love of her life Gary Tomlinson Sr. and they were married on February 21st. After living in Rhode Island and North Carolina, they ultimately settled in Hopkinton, NH where they raised their 3 children Gary, Katherine and Mark.
Linda dedicated her life to her family and community. She mentored countless local youth as an assistant teacher, Cub Scout leader, and Nordic and Track & Field coach, earning the well-deserved title of Hopkinton School District’s “Volunteer of the Year.” An avid outdoorswoman, she loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. Later in life, Linda brought her bright energy to politics, working as the welcoming first face of Governor Merrill’s office and later joining US Attorney Thomas Colantuono's staff, where she built lifelong friendships. Known for her infectious laugh, beautiful smile, and a strict preference for hugs over handshakes, Linda brought joy to everyone she met.
Linda is predeceased by her loving parents, her Mother in Law, Violet Tomlinson and the love of her life, Gary Tomlinson Sr. She is survived by her loving brother, Emerson Colwell of Bristol, RI, children Gary (Janalee) Tomlinson, Jr. of Fort Worth, TX, Katherine Tomlinson of Hopkinton, NH and Mark Tomlinson of Chattanooga, TN, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and by her wonderful friend who was like a daughter to her, Sarah Smith who was with her to the very end, and many other cousins nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.
The family would also like to express their gratitude to her care team at Concord Hospital, who showed nothing but kindness, love, and compassion to Linda in her final days.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hopkinton Youth Sports Association.
