Lucille Ladd, known as Lucy, born Lucille Archibald in Goffstown, NH on June 4, 1927, passed away at her home on August 18, 2018 at the age of 91. She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Levi. She had two older sisters, Ruth and Priscilla, who she loved dearly. She maintained a close relationship with them and their families.
Lucy graduated from Central High School in Manchester. While in school she worked at the Puritan Restaurant and after graduation worked for the telephone company as an operator and supervisor. She served as a supervisor of the checklist in Loudon for many years and was chairman of the Loudon Bicentennial Committee in 1976. She and her daughter Betty Gail owned and operated the Foxglove Restaurant in Chichester for 11 years.
Levi and Lucy met at a school dance at Pittsfield High School while she was visiting her sister Ruth, who taught home economics there. They married and had 7 children.
Family gatherings, traveling, gardening, church, sewing, and golfing were much enjoyed by Lucy. A visit with her nearly always involved a game of cards and catching up on family news. She and Levi loved to entertain family, friends and many guests in their homes in Loudon and Key West. They were very generous and gave, often without thought of repayment, to numerous people who came to them in need. Lucy will be fondly remembered for her loving support and generosity that touched so many.
As a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, in Concord, Lucy was active in many church functions. She was especially involved in the Sunday School program and the Christian Science Reading Room. She supported multiple worthy causes, with a special interest in Native American tribes, and The Koko Gorilla Foundation, featured in the National Geographic magazine.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Susan Hipkiss and her husband Chris, Sally Cole and her husband Robert, Daniel Ladd and his wife Karen, Betty Gail Fifield and her husband Stephen, Linda Fife, David Ladd and his wife Abby and Jonathan Ladd, 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her devoted friend and caregiver of 10 years, Lori L. LaMont.
