Concord, NH Lynda Hazen of Chicago, IL, died on March 6, 2025 at Granite VNA Hospice House with her family and friends holding her hands. She was born on 7/31/47 to Barbara and Myron Hazen of Henniker, NH.
Lynda created and lived in a universe of true, life long friends. Her first and closest friends were her siblings. Lynda’s favorite times were playing cards, drinking wine and laughing with her sisters. She was determined, fun, courageous and always a positive and inspiring person.
When Lynda was ten, her family moved to Concord and she quickly developed wonderful friendships which lasted into adulthood. At Concord High School (class of 1965) Lynda was liked and admired across social circles. She went on to major in Elementary Education at UNH (B.A.‘69 M.Ed ‘70) where she found her professional calling and enjoyed an active social life. She was especially loved by her AXO sisters who gather together still.
Lynda began her educational career as a teacher, but soon transitioned to the Head Start program. Beginning in the NH north country, she moved to Chicago in 1983. She held several administrative positions and received many honors (Outstanding administrator, Humanitarian award etc) in her forty plus years of dedication to Head Start. There, she made dear friends with whom, as usual, she remained close for life.
Lynda was a long time member of All Saints Episcopal Church. She sang in the choir, traveled to New Orleans several times after Katrina and was proud to be on Vestry. Of course, she developed amazing friendships at church. Her early childhood and church friends and her “Chicago family” loved and cared for her endlessly as her cancer progressed.
Lynda loved books, travel, theater and cards. She was fiercely independent and lived a life of service. She is already deeply missed.
She leaves her siblings, Sally Kendrick, William Hazen, Daniel Hazen (Karen), and Sonia Noyes (David) and her brother in law Bob Burke and three generations of nieces and nephews. Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Sandy Burke, her nephew Tom Noyes and her sisters in law Judy Hazen and Marcia Gibbons and her brother in law, Arthur Kendrick.
SERVICES A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 on March 28, 2025 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Chicago, IL. Burial will be in Henniker NH later this spring.
In lieu of flowers, Lynda suggested donations to the All Saints Phoenix Fund, 4550 Hermitage Ave., Chicago, IL 60640
