Marie R. (McIntyre) McMillen, 75, formerly of Bow, New Hampshire, and most recently of Center Barnstead, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at Mountain View Community in Ossipee, New Hampshire. Born on March 27, 1951, in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of William and Rosalyn McIntyre.
Marie shared more than 52 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Roger Burr McMillen. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, friendship, and service, raising their family in Bow, New Hampshire, where they became deeply rooted in the schools, community, and countless activities that helped shape the town they loved.
She is survived by her husband, Roger McMillen; her children, Timothy McMillen and his partner, Karen Bergquist, of Bow, New Hampshire; Liz McMillen and her wife, Tracey Crane, of Windham, Maine; and Catherine (Catie) Chapman and her husband, Evan Chapman, of Canton, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her siblings Margaret Lahar and Deborah Rice, both of Quincy, Massachusetts; William McIntyre and his wife, Susan, of Abington, Massachusetts; Daniel McIntyre and his wife, Patricia, of Abington, Massachusetts; and Virginia McIntyre; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Richard Lahar.
A graduate of Boston College, Marie devoted her professional life to education. She began her career in the Merrimack Valley School District before joining the Bow School District, where she worked in Special Education and later taught seventh grade at Bow Memorial School. Her commitment extended well beyond the classroom. She served on the Bow School Board for a decade, including as chairwoman, and played a key role on the Bow High School Building Committee from 1993 to 1997. She was recognized by the New Hampshire School Administrators Association as the 2010 Southwest Region Champion for Children, honored by the Bow School District for her dedicated service to the children of Bow, and recognized by the Bow Rotary Club in 1994 for outstanding community service.
Her dedication extended far beyond her professional career. She was a constant presence in youth sports, scouting, and community activities, including baseball, softball, soccer, football, field hockey, rhythmic gymnastics, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. Whether serving as an organizer, coach, volunteer, fundraiser, or enthusiastic supporter, she gave generously of her time and energy to help others succeed.
A devoted member of St. John's Parish, Marie lived her faith through service. She taught CCD for many years and remained guided by her Catholic faith in her commitment to family, community, and those around her, including serving as a Confirmation sponsor for young adults in her parish.
Marie had a gift for bringing people together and making everyone feel welcome, whether at a neighborhood gathering, around a holiday table, or at a school event. She and Roger especially cherished summers on Lower Suncook Lake, spending time aboard their pontoon boat with their two dogs, and winters in Lillian, Alabama, enjoying the warmth and beauty of the Gulf Coast.
Through her decades of service, Marie helped shape generations of students, families, and neighbors in the Bow community. Her leadership, compassion, and tireless volunteerism strengthened the community she loved and called home.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain View Community and the hospice team for the compassionate care, dignity, and kindness they provided to Marie and her family during her final months.
At the heart of her life, Marie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, educator, mentor, volunteer, and friend. Her legacy lives on in the countless students, athletes, scouts, neighbors, friends, and family members whose lives were enriched by her kindness, encouragement, and unwavering belief in their potential. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by all who knew her.
