Maureen was a sociable, funny and lovely woman with a taste for beauty. She was also a loving, kind, tender-hearted, and devoted mother, wife, daughter and friend. Her loss leaves a great heartache in many who knew her well.
Maureen was born in 1940 to Mary (Whitmore) and Russell Deeg, and was raised in Manchester along with her younger sister Judy. Among her fond memories of childhood was her dad dragging her and Judy in a sled down Brook St. on winter days to shop at the Elm St. A& P. She also fondly recalled she and Judy squeezing into bed with her parents on Sunday nights in the 1940s to listen to “The Shadow” radio broadcast.
She was a 1958 graduate of Manchester Central High School. There she made several lifelong friendships with a group that overtime became The Girls. What a special group of women they were and are. Maureen’s family thanks you for the lifetime of friendship you gave her.
Maureen shared 33 years of a love-filled marriage with the late Wells Anderson. They traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe, and the Caribbean, often with good friends the Bartletts, the Ambroses, the Bogaerts, and many others. A highlight trip was to Russia and the Baltics in the summer of 1989 just as the Iron Curtain was coming down. They built a lovely home in Concord that Maureen filled with warmth, beauty and wonderful meals. Christmas time was a feast for the eyes and stomach in the Anderson home. That knack for making a lovely home was already clear even when Maureen lived for 10 years with her son in a small apartment in Manchester Gardens.
Her 50-year work life included 19 years , 1989-2008, as an HR administrator with NH Public Radio, 19 years as an administrator at the NH Bar Association 1969-88, and several years in the 1960s at Roger Mara’s Insurance Agency in Manchester, where she once shared an elevator ride with Paul Newman. Mr Mara was generous enough to allow Maureen to bring a crib to the office so she could keep an eye on her newborn while working.
Maureen’s first marriage, to the late Donald Langan, ended in divorce in 1968, but they remained on friendly terms for many years after. Maureen kindly included her ex -in-laws on holiday meals throughout her son’s childhood. A fiancée, Fred Razcka, died in a car crash in 1960.
Her family would like to thank the staff at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, for its care. Thank you also to Jeanne Repec and Susan Benson for the care, and laughs, they gave to Maureen in her final years.
Maureen is survived by her son, Jeff Langan and his wife Joanne Normandin, of Southborough, MA; stepdaughter Lauren Anderson, Newcastle, ME; stepson Todd Anderson, Acton, MA, and his former wife, Nancy Anderson; nephews Craig Bergeron, Carolina Shores, NC, and Curt Bergeron and wife Diane, Hooksett; and grandchildren Jessica Reilly and Kevin Anderson. She was the godmother to Craig Bergeron, Pamela (Ambrose) Lopes, and Maureen (Provost) Corrigan.
She was predeceased by her husband Wells, her parents Mary and Russell Deeg, sister Judith (Bergeron) Packard, and nephew Cory Bergeron.
A funeral service will be held June 10, 10am - 1pm, at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Concord, NH.
