Nathan graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1993 and received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from New Hampshire Technical Institute in 1996. He served as a part-time police officer for the Hopkinton and Henniker Police Departments. After graduating from the NH Police Academy, he served in the Belmont Police Department and as Senior Patrolman and Motorcycle Officer for the Amherst Police Department for thirteen years. Nathan supported and served on the staff of the NH Chiefs of Police Cadet Academy for youth interested in a future career in law enforcement.
He cared deeply about the environment, the ethical treatment of animals, rescuing greyhounds and was involved with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society focusing on saving marine wildlife and their environment. He enjoyed Bikram Yoga, hiking and backpacking with his greyhounds. Nathan will be remembered for his kind heartedness, outgoing personality, and sense of humor.
Family members include his wife Dr. Amanda Hegnauer of Hopkinton, his parents Gregory and Dawn (Carbonneau) Berry of Hopkinton, his grandmothers Madeline Berry of Gorham and Shirley Carbonneau of Concord. He was predeceased by his grandfathers Chester Berry and Roland Carbonneau.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 17 at 2 pm at the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton, 1548 Hopkinton Rd., Hopkinton, NH. A spring burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial Donations may be made to Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption, 14 West Swanzey Rd, Swanzey, NH 03446 or to the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton, 1548 Hopkinton Rd, Hopkinton, NH 03229 for local outreach.
