

Patricia McDonald Lucey, 63, passed away on October 10, 2010 after a long struggle with Lymphoma. Throughout her illness, Pat remained committed to fighting her disease while demonstrating incredible strength and grace.
The daughter of Dorothy Flannery McDonald and Edward S. McDonald (deceased), Pat was born in Pottsville, PA in 1947 and grew up in Brighton, MA. She was a graduate of Boston College and received her Masters of Education from Notre Dame College.
Pat met her husband Bernard Dennis Lucey Jr. while working in Boston. In a twist of fate, Pat and Bernie were re-united after her car caught fire on the Mass Pike highway. Pat and Bernie were married in 1973 and moved to Concord, NH where she first worked as an assistant for NH Governor Mel Thompson.
Pat was the mother of 3 sons, B. Dennis III, Brian, and Kevin. She was an incredible mother and most recently a grandmother to 4 grandchildren. As a reading specialist at Barnstead Elementary School for 19 years, Pat shared a love for language and stories. She treasured her students and shared the passion for reading with each of her grandchildren. Pat also cherished the many teachers and parents she partnered with throughout her career.
As adventurers, Pat and Bernie shared travel experiences together including a honeymoon in England and Ireland, several road trips through much of the U.S. with their children, and recent trips to Burningman. She was quite spiritual; throughout her illness pat also embraced alternative approaches to healing.
Pat is survived by her husband Bernie of Concord, (formerly of Quincy, MA), sons Dennis and his wife Courtney Lucey and their two children Maeve and Senan of West Newbury, MA; Brian and his wife Stephanie Lucey and their children Josh and Reese of Newburyport; MA; and Kevin Lucey of Portsmouth, NH.
She is also survived by her mother Dorothy McDonald of Raymond, NH; her sister, Ellen Muller and her husband Joe of Walpole, Mass. and their daughters Emily and Julia; and her brothers, Robert McDonald and his wife Kathy, of Raymond and their children Aimee, Maura, Jonathan, and Patrick; and Edward McDonald, of Boston and his children Heather and Connor.
Calling hours will be at Bennett Funeral Home on 209 North Main St, Concord, NH on Thursday October 14 from 2:30-4:30 pm and 7-9 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 15 at 10:30 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 200 South Main Street Concord, NH followed by a reception at the church. A private family burial will be held in Newburyport, MA at a future date.
