Richard A. Winden, passed away peacefully at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, on January 22nd, 2013 with his daughters at his side. He was born in Buffalo, New York, the only child of the late Arthur and Stella Winden. The family moved to Newfane, NY in 1939 where he attended and graduated from Newfane Central High School in 1944. Prior to entering the Army Air Force in 1946, he worked briefly for the Harrison Radiator Division of the General Motor Corporation. After completing his 3 year tour of duty, attaining the rank of Sergeant, he returned to work for General Motors.
On August 27, 1949 he married Audrey Jean Petty, his wife of 41 years, at the home of her parents in Olcott, NY. In February 1952 Richard entered the Engineering School at the University of Buffalo. He graduated in June 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Upon graduation, he joined the General Electric Company working primarily as a Quality Control/Manufacturing Engineer involved in the manufacture of products ranging from electric light lamps to Navy nuclear propulsion systems. The family moved around during this time living in Cleveland, Ohio, Schenectady, NY, Pittsfield, MA, Lynnfield, MA and Pembroke, NH. They moved to Pembroke in 1968 and Richard worked at the GE Hooksett facility, a satellite plant of the Aircraft Engine Group, until his retirement, with 33 years of service in January 1989.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Audrey and his grandson James O’Rourke, IV.
He is survived by his five children, Kathleen Malone and her husband Norry of Bakersfield, VT, Richard M. Winden and his wife Janice of Canterbury, NH, Cynthia Winden of Somersworth, NH, Sharon O’Rourke and her husband James of Deerfield, NH and Jeremiah Winden and his wife Jackie of Pembroke, NH. In addition, there are six grandchildren, Carrie, Heather, Daniel, Hannah, Lucas and Christina; along with six great grandchildren, Ryan, Claudia, Audrey, Owen, Tanner and Jak.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 from 11:30am-1:30pm at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, Concord.
Funeral services will take place at 1:30pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation, in Richard’s name, to a charity of your choice.
