Bob was born in Woodsville on February 17, 1927, a son of Howard E. and Charlotte (Frye) Stevens Thompson.
He graduated from Concord High School in 1945. He worked for New England Telephone Company and American Telephone and Telegraph for 32 years, retiring in 1983.
He was active in Lebanon Lions Club from 1961 to 1970 and was a Past District Governor. He was an avid snow machiner. After retiring, he ran a small engine repair business from his home, developed and maintained a Christmas tree farm on his property in Weare and was a Telephone Pioneer volunteer; repairing talking books for the blind at NH Library for several years
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Patricia (Jewell) Stevens of Concord; 2 sons, R. Douglas Stevens, Jr. of Monroe, CT and Scott J. Stevens of Hampton, CT; a daughter, Kay (Stevens) Knight of Hooksett, NH; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Stevens and a sister, Eleanor (Stevens) Tatro.
Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 2pm with a funeral service immediately following at 2pm on Wednesday, July 6 at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Havenwood Heritage Heights Endowment Fund, 33 Christian Avenue, Concord, NH 03301.
