

Sally earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a certificate in Art Education from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, in 1953. Following her graduation, she began her career as a commercial artist in Greenwich Village, New York City, where she also decorated storefronts in Manhattan for Christmas. She later worked as an elementary art teacher on Long Island, New York. After moving to New Hampshire in 1959, Sally dedicated over four decades to Concord Photo Engraving as a commercial artist, designing artwork for printing plates used in various packaging. Her children fondly remember shopping trips where she would point out food packages, shoe boxes, and department store shopping bags that she had designed.
Sally was married to Bruce Benedict for 24 years until his passing in 1980. She later married Roger Gibbs, with whom she shared 11 years until his death in 2014. Sally was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Wilsey, in 2024. She cherished her time in the big saltbox house on Oak Hill Road with Roger Gibbs, caring for him in his later years. Sally maintained a close relationship with her sister, enjoying weekly phone conversations for many years. Sally passed away peacefully, surrounded by her four children who loved her dearly.
Sally is survived by her three daughters, Susan Mott and husband Christopher of Asheville, North Carolina; Jill Minter and husband Douglas of Louisville, Colorado; Donna Cuthbert and husband James of Concord, New Hampshire; and her son John Benedict and partner Jennifer Paone of Keene, New Hampshire. She leaves behind seven grandchildren: Ashley Mott of Asheville, North Carolina (and husband Jared Hinton); Sarah Vendola of Medford, Massachusetts (and husband Alex); Will Minter of Westminster, Colorado; Laura Minter of Louisville, Colorado; Andrew Cuthbert of Plymouth, New Hampshire (and wife Hunter); Alyson Curtin of Concord, New Hampshire (and husband Garin); and Colin Benedict of Layton, Utah. She is also survived by Emma Rule, niece of Jennifer Paone, and eight great-grandchildren: Oliver and Avery Hinton; Brynn and Sadie Vendola; Bailey Cuthbert; and Callie, Tucker, and Lumi Curtin.
From her marriage to Roger Gibbs, she is survived by four stepchildren: Peter Gibbs of Stafford Springs, Connecticut; Sara Rath of West Pawlet, Vermont; Susan Kristoff of Granville, New York; and Amy Kipphut of Concord, New Hampshire. Additionally, she is survived by nine step grandchildren (Emily, Nick, Laura, John, Andrea, Nathan, Rachel, Heather, and Jeffrey) and thirteen step great-grandchildren.
Sally was an amazing artist, creating beautiful abstract paintings in college and designing birth announcements for her children. She always kept art supplies available for her children and grandchildren. An accomplished bridge player, she was a member of the East Concord Women’s Bridge Club and enjoyed solitaire, word games, and puzzles. She was an early adopter of technology, using her Apple computer, iPad, and iPhone to stay connected with her family.
A member of the East Congregational Church in East Concord, New Hampshire, Sally sang in the choir with a beautiful alto voice and served as the Church treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship and created posters for church events.
Sally was passionate about gardening, maintaining a large vegetable garden and cultivating flowers. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds, ensuring her bird feeders were well-stocked. A skilled home cook, she left her family with cherished recipes and memories of delicious meals. She was also a talented seamstress and knitter, crafting clothes and costumes for her children and knitting wool mittens each year.
Sally Benedict Gibbs will be remembered for her artistic talent, love for her family, and dedication to her community.
A gathering to celebrate Sally’s life will be held in the Great Room at Havenwood, 33 Christian Ave., Concord, NH, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, following a small private memorial service. A private burial will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in East Concord, New Hampshire.
The family wishes to thank Sally’s many caregivers at Havenwood for their thoughtful and extraordinary care over the past seven years and, more recently, the services of Amedisys Hospice Care.
