Spencer Mitchel “Mitch” Wilber, 64, a lifelong resident of Concord, NH, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 8, 2025. He was born in Keene, NH, on February 24, 1961, to Dean E. Wilber and Pamela C. Ollivier. Mitch attended Concord High School, graduating in 1979.
Mitch began his military career in 1982 in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, where he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. He treasured his time abroad, the friendships he made, and exploring the Bavarian Alps.
After active duty, Mitch transitioned to the NH Army National Guard, specializing in auditing, safety, and procurement. While serving, he pursued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from New Hampshire College in 1991. Over his 32-year career, he earned numerous commendations and retired in 2014 at the rank of Master Sergeant with a Meritorious Service Medal. He later served the National Guard as a civilian before fully retiring.
Mitch cherished family traditions such as Christmas Eve gatherings, summer trips to Island Pond, VT, weeks spent as a family on the lake, and supporting his daughters at horse shows and dance recitals. His pride in Paige and Allison was evident to all who knew him.
Throughout his life, he was happiest outdoors. He grew up snowmobiling and was a longtime member of The Bow Pioneers Snowmobile Club. He loved hunting, fishing, biking, kayaking, camping, and skiing – both on snow and water. Boating was his greatest joy, and he passed that passion on to his daughters and family, always asking who wanted a “pull.” He also had a lifelong love of photography, capturing nature and the many adventures he enjoyed.
He found peace in the outdoors, and his family will always think of him on the water, on the trails, and around a campfire.
Mitch is survived by his father, Dean E. Wilber of Loudon; his mother, Pamela C. Ollivier of Durham, ME; his former wife and friend, Karen E. Wilber of Bow; his daughters, Paige A. Wilber and husband Ryan P. Chartier of Concord, and Allison S. Wilber of Newmarket; his brother Christen B. Wilber of Newington; his sister Deborah Kye Power and husband David J. Power Jr. of Candia; his nieces, Riley I. Wilber and fiancé Oz Adari of Canberra, Australia, and Piper K. Wilber of Portland, ME; along with extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Margaret “Meg” Wilber.
SERVICES: A private family gathering will be held at a later date at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mitch’s name to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, 54 Portsmouth St, Concord, NH 03301.
