Thomas J. Reed, a lifelong New Hampshire resident with a deep love for family, a spirit of adventure, and a wonderful sense of humor, passed away on October 4, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and stories to be shared for years to come.
Born on March 20, 1943, in Concord, New Hampshire, Tom was the only child of the late John Reed and Alice (Jesseman) Reed. He graduated from Pembroke Academy, continued his education at Bowdoin College, and later earned his master’s degree from Rivier University.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Texas and Alaska. Following his military service, he built a successful career with New England Telephone Company as a Management Trainer in Marlborough, Massachusetts, retiring in 1994.
Tom loved spending time with family and friends, playing cribbage, hiking, reading, and researching family genealogy. He also loved to travel, explore new places, and learn about their history and customs. He especially enjoyed watching his daughter play basketball and rarely missed her high school or college games. One of his unique passions was trains. Wherever his travels took him, if he spotted one, he would race ahead to find a place to park and watch it pass by.
An avid Boston Red Sox fan, Tom watched nearly every game. The crack of a wood bat or an excited commentator would echo through the house every summer day. Some of his fondest memories were watching the Red Sox with his dad, a love he proudly passed down to his grandchildren.
One of Tom’s greatest gifts was his ability to tell a story. With his wonderful sense of humor and natural ability to draw people in, he could turn an ordinary conversation into something memorable. Whether recounting an adventure, sharing a funny experience, or reminiscing about days gone by, Tom knew how to hold an audience and bring laughter to those around him.
Tom had a deep love for poetry. His sharp wit and excellent writing skills made his poems entertaining and humorous. Though he never published his work, he wrote throughout his life, sharing a special bond with his eldest grandson through their mutual love of wordplay and exchanging clever ideas.
Tom’s lifelong love of the water began in childhood with his summers on Lake Winnipesaukee. He raised his family on Bow Lake and treasured his summers spent there. He enjoyed sailing, boating, fishing, and making memories with family and friends. While wintering at Fisherman’s Cove in Dade City, FL, Tom enjoyed amateur photography, golfing, biking, and playing shuffleboard.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy A. (Boyce) Reed, and his son, John Reed. He leaves behind his loving life partner, Peggy Keefe; his daughter, Amanda Reed, and her husband, Merle DeWitt, of Epsom, New Hampshire; and his three cherished grandchildren, Gavin, Logan, and Kayleigh DeWitt.
Though he will be deeply missed, his stories will be told again, his memories revisited, and the laughter he brought to others will continue to bring smiles for years to come. As long as there is an ear to listen, the world will continue to hear about the adventures of Tom Reed and he will be forever loved and remembered.
Services will be announced at a later date.
