Velia Garnis

Velia Barbara Garnis died peacefully on May 6th, 2018. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, James H. Garnis, and four sisters, Mentana, Antonia, Dora, and Emma. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Garnis, Barbara Garnis and her husband Joe Brouillet, and Cynthia Eaton; five grandchildren, Debra Dwyer, Diane Dwyer, Denise Stack and her husband Richard, Elena Hogan and her husband Keith, and James Eaton and his wife Megan; and four great-grandchildren, Jessica Dulude, Zachary Hogan, Maria Hogan, and James Stack.

Val was born on October 19th, 1917, in Lynn, Massachusetts, the daughter of Charles and Elena Perry. She graduated from Lynn English High School. She married James Garnis on July 9th, 1939. After moving to Concord, NH in 1953, they remained close to family and friends in Lynn.

Partnered with her husband, she became a Life Master Bridge player. She enjoyed bowling, and won many trophies with her team at Boutwell’s Bowling Center. With her line-dancing troupe, she contributed to the renovation of the Concord Auditorium. She cherished the special friendships she developed over the many years she participated in activities in Concord.

A loyal sports fan, she loved watching the Patriots, Celtics, and Red Sox. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest pleasure was attending her grand and great-grandchildrens’ sports, musical, and theatrical events and performances. She also shared her love for her family with her talented baking and cooking. She will be deeply missed by her loving family.

Calling hours will be at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Concord, NH, on Saturday May 12th, from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm, with a celebration of Val’s life beginning at 12:15 pm.
