CONCORD, N.H.-Virginia J. Walls, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Havenwood Heritage Heights, where she had made her home for the past nine years. In her final days, “Ginny” was visited by family members, including her children, Gary and Sheri, who traveled to be with her, and Michael, who visited daily. She was also surrounded by the love and caring of the extraordinary staff at Havenwood, particularly those on Melody Lane, where she spent her last year and a half.
Ginny was born on March 29, 1925 in Springfield, Ohio to David and Hazel James. Due to the untimely deaths of her mother and her older sister when she was a child, Ginny took on the responsibility of “keeping house” for her father at an early age. Ginny lived in Ohio until her marriage to Marion P. “Brick” Walls in 1943, at which time she was welcomed into a large and loving extended family, including Brick’s nine siblings. Following the completion of Brick’s service in the Army during WWII, the couple began a lifetime of travels together. During the course of raising a family, they moved to nine different states as Brick pursued his career as an electrical engineer. They continued to relocate after the children were grown—including spending a memorable year in Saudi Arabia—before settling into retirement in Tallahassee, Florida. They were married for 61 years. With quiet pride, Ginny was a traditional homemaker, Mom to her three children, and Grandma to seven grandchildren. A framed certificate from one of her brothers-in-law, honoring her outstanding hospitality, was proudly displayed in Ginny’s kitchen wherever she lived.
Ginny is survived by her son Michael J. Walls and his wife, Leigh, of Concord, New Hampshire; her son Gary B. Walls, of Northbrook, Illinois; her daughter Sheri W. Scott of Tallahassee, Florida; and beloved grandchildren Allison Walls, Bethany Walls, Liberty Walls, Luka Walls, Rebecca Scott, Stefani Scott and Jordan Scott.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Great Room at Havenwood Heritage Heights, 33 Christian Avenue, Concord, NH 03301 and on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Rose Hill Burial Park, 4781 South Charleston Pike, Springfield, Ohio 45502. Friends may honor Ginny’s memory and celebrate her love of fashion by wearing bright colors or a pair of favorite “party shoes.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Havenwood Heritage Heights Resident Support Fund at the Christian Avenue address, above.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord, New Hampshire and Rose Hill Burial Park of Springfield, Ohio.
