Betty Jo Widener

Betty Jo Hayes Widener, age 73, Conover, went home to be with the Lord and her loving husband, Festus Lee Widener, on October 23, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born April 19, 1941 in Watauga County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Elmo Hayes and Helen Davis Hayes Keller. Betty Jo was a member of Cornerstone Covenant Church in Hudson, NC. Betty was a people person and loved meeting and helping everyone. She will be remembered and missed by her many friends she met while working as a greeter at Sam’s Club in Hickory. Betty loved her church and had a very special walk with her Lord and Savior. Betty adored her family and loved time with them but she had a very special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Mamaw as she was so lovingly called always enjoyed her grandchildren. The family will always cherish and love the memories they have.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny F. Hayes.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, Tracy Huffman and wife, Kim of Lenoir; daughter, Shannon Widener Williams of Hickory; grandchildren, Amber Marie Williams, Kylee Morgan Watts and Emily Huffman; brothers, Benny Hayes and wife, Ann, of Conover, Danny Hayes and wife, Doris, of Caldwell County; sisters, Patricia “Sissy” H. Johnson and husband, Danny, of Connelly Springs, Susan Keller Brittain, of Hudson, Jill Keller Mann and husband Gary of Hudson; and sister-in-law, Johnsie Hayes of Lenoir.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Covenant Church with Rev. Freddie Stapleton officiating. Burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
