Charles “Doc” Floyd McManus, age 87, of Catawba, NC, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Brian Center in Hickory, NC. Born March 30, 1931 in Lee County, he was the son of the late Cummins McManus and Bessie Mae Councilman McManus
Charles served in the US Navy as a corpsman and as a nuclear qualified electronics technician. He was the recipient of two Good Conduct medals. He met his wife Colette while he was stationed in New London Connecticut. He was known as a “jack of all trades”. In his spare time, he enjoyed classical music and reading a good book.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Colette Trickett McManus; son, Truman Joseph McManus; brother, Cummins McManus, Jr.; granddaughter, Amy.
Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Charles McManus Jr. and wife, Cathy of Maiden; Frederick Thomas McManus of West Jefferson; daughter, Kathy Hendrix of Catawba; sister, May Vaughn of South Carolina; grandchildren, Duncan Thun, Laura Carpenter, Cindy Holleman, Yolanda Jamison, Jamison McManus, Stacy Parker; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Rachael, Jarrett, Colton, Bradley, Rylee, Lathan, Kelton and Madison.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
