Born March 29, 1940 in Oceola, IA, he was the son of the late Charles Howard Murphy and Virginia Mae Downey. Herbert was a member of Christ Church in Hickory.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Connell “Connie” Murphy.
Herbert is survived by a sons, Scott Murphy and wife, Marsha, and Steven Murphy and wife, Lisa; daughter, Shannon Murphy Hefner; brother, Ed Murphy and wife, Dixie; brother-in-law, Danny Crawford and wife, Ellen; grandchildren, Austin Murphy, Jackson Murphy, Kasey Smith, Donovan Murphy, Riley Jo Murphy, Aidan Hefner, Addison Hefner; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Christ Church, Fairgrove Campus.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
