Ira Sidney Cline

Ira Sidney Cline, age 84, of Conover, NC, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born August 16, 1933, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Thomas Lee Cline and Vida Gertrude Keisler Cline.
Ira was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Conover, NC, where he had served in numerous capacities, including elder, deacon, church council, Sunday school superintendent, cemetery committee, and church secretary. He was the owner and operator of Ira Cline Strawberry Farm in Conover, NC, and was a member of the NC and National Strawberry, Blueberry, Small Fruit and Vegetable, and Roadside Marketers Assoc. Ira was a charter member of the St. Timothy Volunteer Fire Dept. in Conover, NC, charter member of the Catawba County Farm Bureau, 4-H leader, member of the NCDACS Commissioner’s Circle, Hickory Nut Square Dancers, Foothills Antique Tractor Assoc., and Catawba Valley Cattlemen’s Assoc. He was a life member of the NRA, member of the Catawba Valley Rifle & Pistol Club, and NC Rifle & Pistol Assoc. Ira was also a member of the Catawba County and NC Republican Party. He was the recipient of one of North Carolinas highest honors, The Old North State Award.
In addition to his parents, Ira was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Reinhardt Cline; grandson, Hoyle Hoover; and sister, Lena Simmons.
Survivors include daughters, Claire C. Sipe and husband, Ron of Conover, NC, Sandra C. Herman and husband, Joe of Conover, NC, and Susan C. Hughes and husband, David of Conover NC; son, Thomas E. Cline and wife, Deborah of Conover; sister, Annie Boughton and husband Bob, of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Marie Sipe, Elizabeth Beisler, Holly See, Eric Herman, Kaitlan Herman, Sidney Hughes, Emilie Hughes, Christopher Cline, and Chelsey Cline; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Natalie, Kassidy, Jackson, Madelyn, Cayden, NaLae, Livia, Delilah, Lilly, Brendan, and Caleb.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Johnson and Rev. Anton Lagoutine officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 18, 2018, at Drum Funeral Home in Conover, NC, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

What a man! Ira and Ann supported me in everything I did. He was so special to me. I will miss his political insight and advice, his strawberries and his smile. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. You had a wonderful dad, granddad and family member!
