Joey Wayne Sass

Joey Wayne Sass, of Newton, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at the age of 53. He was born in Mullins, West Virginia on Wednesday, September 20, 1972 to the late James Sass and Rema H. Sass.

In addition to his parents, Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Mae Hayworth; aunts, Shirley O’Neal, Judy Root, Phyllis Main; uncles, Buddy Hayworth, Roger Hayworth, Ed Hayworth, and Orville Hayworth.

Joey worked as a lead-team welder for 20 years. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and he loved his 2 cats, Winnie and Molly.

Those left to cherish Joey’s memory are his wife, Melissa Sass; cousins, Cathy Gipson of AL; Steve Main of NC, Jeff O’Neal of NC, Randy O’Neal of WV, and many long-time friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joey may be made to his wife, Melissa and are sincerely appreciated.
