Kay Frances Eckard Icard

Born August 10, 1945, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Earl Roscoe and Mary Pauline Little Eckard. Kay was cherished; her bright blue eyes and ready smile complimented her gentle nature, amazing generosity and her love for others. Family, faith and friends were at the center of her life.

After graduating from Bunker Hill High School, Kay was employed as secretary for Catawba County Civil Defense Agency. Later she became secretary for Oxford Elementary School and served in that position until her retirement. Kay enjoyed cooking and baking. Her culinary skills brought great pleasure to those around her. She loved growing plants and flowers and was known in the community for her expertise as a partner in the nursery business that she and her husband operated for many years.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by an infant son, Earl William Icard; a sister and brother-in-law, Patsy Eckard Beal and Darrell Beal; and a brother, Earl Dale Eckard.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Ted William Icard; two sons, Michael Ted Icard of Conover and Jeremy Scott Icard and wife, Heather Phung of Concord; granddaughters, Larissa, Michaela, and Amber Icard; grandsons, Phillip and Aaron Icard; sisters-in-law, Brenda Eckard of Claremont, Jeanette Hefner of Hickory, Patricia Capps (T. K.) of Hickory, and Doris Bullard (Danny) of Newton; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A service of remembrance to celebrate Kay’s life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Revs. Eric Hollar, Dr. Mike Ramey and Craig Schultz will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 at the church.

Pallbearers are: Thomas Icard, Hans Hoyle, Danny Bullard, Eugene Hughes, Wilson Sigmon and Greg Stilwell.

The family extends gratitude to the Hospice staff for their special care and concern.
