Larry Dean McGee
November 11, 1956 – September 3, 2018
Larry Dean McGee, age 61, of Conover, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 3, 2018, at his residence. Born November 11, 1956, in Catawba County, NC, he was the son of the late Noah Woodrow McGee and Johnnie Jeanette Keener McGee.
Dean was the former owner of the White Pine Café in downtown Conover, NC, and had previously worked with his father and uncle, Joe McGee, at the original White Pine restaurant, Excel Woodcarving and Building Specialties in Conover, NC, and for Hunter Engineering Company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and feeding people. He loved to socialize with family and friends; he could and would tell stories for as long as one wanted to listen. Dean was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton, NC, where his extended family attended and served for many decades.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his sister, Sandi Petrovich.
Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Terri Feimster McGee of the home; sons, Trace Baxter McGee of Blowing Rock, NC, and Joshua Dean McGee of Charlotte, NC; special nephew, Marcus Campbell Forsyth of the home; brothers, Woody McGee and wife Joyce, of Bethlehem, NC, Gary McGee and wife Susie, of Conover, NC, and Neal McGee and wife Susan, of Catawba, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of Dean’s life will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, September 15 at Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton, NC with Rev. Chip McGee and Rev. David Hamlyn officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow in the Family Life Center at Friendship.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: Friendship United Methodist Church, 2900 N. Old NC Hwy. 16, Newton, NC 28658, Christ Church, 2172 Wilkesboro Hwy., Statesville, NC 28625, and Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
The McGee family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Conover, NC.

Terri and family, Phil and I are very sorry to hear about Dean's death. We are praying for all of you. I have known you and Dean since high school, but I so enjoyed getting to catch up with you during all those meals we enjoyed at the White Pine Cafe. Dean was an excellent chef and a good man.
