

Born June 18, 1926 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Locke Gentry Drum and Mettie Pearl Drum Drum. Marvin was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Newton and a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He retired from Southern Furniture after over 40 years and was a former member of Balls Creek Lions Club. Marvin enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and building swings. The joy of his life was time spent with family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marvin lost his sight five years ago, but endured and continued to have a great spirit and attitude.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Campbell Drum, who passed away in 2008; brothers, Paul Drum, Lowell Drum, Cletus Drum; sisters, Louise Caldwell, Nellie Drum, Bertie Caldwell, Natine Lineberger, and Violet Cornelius.
Survivors include his son, Robert “Bob” Drum and wife, Nancy of Newton; daughter, Marva Drum Caldwell and husband, Dwin Caldwell of Claremont; grandchildren, Mindy Drum Cody and husband, Britt of Newton, Whitney Caldwell of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Cody, Brennan Cody; sisters, Pearl Hicks of Newton, Betty Drum of Newton, and Jewell Austin of Brunswick, Ohio.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hamlyn and Rev. Derek Cline officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
